Disgorged on October 4 this year, the 2009 Georg Breuer Brut needs a wide Burgundy glass to show all its layers, which takes its time, though. The wine starts deep and shy in the glass but is noticeably richer and more opulent than the 2008 forerunner. Ripe fruit aromas intermingle perfectly with pure terroir and some herbal notes on the nose, which lead to a round palate with hazelnut, walnut and raisin aromas. Made with Pinot fruit entirely from the Rheingau, this Sekt combines richness, concentration and mouthfeel with purity, finesse and elegance, which is a very rare balancing act in perfection. The 2009 is a pretty different character from the 2008 (which is more for geeks of matured wine), but it is doubtlessly a great, refined and stimulating sparkling wine on its own. The finish is stimulatingly salty and sustainable and lifts the textural weight of this sparkling beauty that will soon enter the markets. Drink Date 2022 - 2034
